About Modderfontein Golf Club

The Modderfontein Golf Club is another Top 100 club in South Africa, rated by Golfers Digest. The club is located in the tranquil settings of Edenvale, on the East Rand in Johannesburg. Facilities at Modderfontein are excellent as such, the popular course see’s in excess of 40 000 rounds of golf annually. All this requires a devoted grounds staff, excellent management and first rate facilities, all of which Modderfontein has.

Established and opened in 1935 by late South African golfing legend Bobby Locke, Modderfontein has of course undergone certain upgrades and restorations – the biggest of which was the entire reconstruction of the clubhouse in 1997.

The course itself stands as wonderful test of golf. It has played host to several top tournaments over the years and features three holes all worthy of ‘signature’ status.

Visitors will be please to know that play here is open to the public. However, it is highly recommended that you book your hotel or accommodation in Johannesburg and your tee-off times ahead to avoid disappointment.
