About Bigtime Bush Bootcamp
If put to the test most experienced economy travellers could survive without a cappuccino and a biscotti biscuit for a good few hours without foaming at the mouth. However if an outdoor magazine conducted an anonymous survey even the ultimate camper who wore hemp socks and clothes made from recycled milk cartons would tick the box marked 'Yes' when admitting to keeping a stash of luxuries in an invisible compartment of their biodegradable sleeping bag.
The question remains would a small mixed group of ten individuals with advanced survival training be foaming at the mouth and smoking their hemp socks if their vacation needs for a rustic African bush experience were met with the challenge of surviving alone with nothing but their wits and their ways-of-the-wild background tuition.
Besides the standard list of nail clippers and deodorant that is customary to be banned from crossing certain travel check points the volunteers on an Extreme Survival Training Course offered by Boswa (Bushcraft On Safari Wilderness Adventures) surrender most items that usually find their way into a hikers bakpack, be they sharp or liquid or soft and solid like marshmallows. At first glance at the inventory list most bush lovers turn the page as if to check for the remaining items allowed.... the page is clean and no mistake had been made.
Travelling light has never been more accurate with the following items comprising the complete list of kit and resources permitted; water bottle, fire steel and knife. Find your own food, find your own water, find your own bed. A band-aid stocked base-camp will monitor bushwhackers by means of binoculars in the event that it is possible to get too much fresh-air over three days under the African sun and two sleeps under African stars.
