In January 1998, the Blue Crane Restaurant initiated the establishment of a non-profit organization known as The Friends of Austin Roberts. The goals of the organization are to help manage, upgrade and improve the Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary. The twelve hectare site, founded on a disused clay quarry, was proclaimed a nature reserve by the Pretoria City Council on 26 February 1958.

The Blue Crane Restaurant is based at this beautiful location, on the waterfront of one of the lakes within the bird sanctuary. A combination of views, its stunning location, excellent food and friendly service, make The Blue Crane a must-visit destination restaurant.

Enjoy the open-air feel of the Top Deck, or the vibey African Mask Bar, which is a little piece of heaven when the sun sets over the lake at night. The restaurant is open from breakfast until late, and offers different dining experiences, in varied settings, as the day progresses.

The tea garden is a beautiful setting for breakfast and afternoon tea, where a delightful assortment of breakfasts, feather-lite pastries, light meals and freshly baked cakes are on offer.

The African Mask Bar is their evening location, where sunsets are best enjoyed. Centrally located with safe parking, it forms an informal and relaxing atmosphere.

A scenic walk through the park adjacent to the Blue Crane will see you arrive at a wonderful collection of contemporary art, housed in the Association of Arts-Pretoria's art gallery.
