Lovemore Park, Port Elizabeth
On the wilder side of Port Elizabeth, where the dramatic seascapes are best enjoyed amidst the scrubby coastal terrain, lies the scenic suburb of Lovemore Park. Situated along the road to Seaview, this suburb is made up of smallholdings and luxurious homes; some farm-style, others far more modern.
Between July and December, visitors staying in Lovemore Park should keep an eye out for the pods of whales that skirt this part of the South African coastline every year. The warm waters of the Indian Ocean are perfect for fishing, swimming and other watersports, and this part of Port Elizabeth has countless rock pools for little ones to explore. Of course, the dolphins put on a show all year round.
Lovemore Park is about 20 to 25 minutes' drive from the city centre and the airport. The closest shopping malls are Walmer Park and Greenacres, which are both around 20 minutes away. The popular swimming beaches of Kings Beach, Hobie Beach and Pollock Beach are a short drive away, and are sure to delight the whole family as they are ideal for swimming, sunbathing, surfing, and other watersports.
Port Elizabeth is part of the larger Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, along with Uitenhage and other smaller towns. This part of the Eastern Cape remains a popular spot for summer beach vacations. Addo Elephant National Park is less than an hour from the city, and is an incredible spot for those looking or an authentic South African safari with all of the conveniences of the nearby metropolis.
