Schoenmakerskop, Port Elizabeth

Schoenmakerskop is one of Port Elizabeth's prettiest suburbs. It is a large area that begins where Summerstrand ends, and extends all the way to the ocean. Much of Schoenies, as it is affectionately known, is dedicated to dense, green coastal scrub. There are a variety of homes; ranging from gorgeous mansions to humble fishing village-style cottages, and everything in-between.

The beaches here are isolated and tranquil, with wild waters and plenty of rocks to explore. The rock pools are filled with marine life, and many families picnic and barbecue here while the little ones delight in playing in the rock pools.

The Sacramento Trail is along the beach here and tells the tale of an old shipwreck. It also showcases this stretch of the Eastern Cape coastline to perfection. Although there are often other dog-walkers or hikers on this trail, it is important not to go alone.

Fishing is a popular pastime at Schoenies, and these waters yield rewarding results. Blacktail, bronze bream, shad and kob are all on the menu for keen fishermen wanting to test their skills. This is the ideal fishing spot as there is plenty of open space, gorgeous views, and a sense of tranquillity under the African skies.
