Orange Grove, Johannesburg
Once an abundant orange farm, brimming with brightly-coloured orange trees, Orange Grove is now a pretty suburb that is conveniently situated close to Sandton, which is an important commercial and retail hotspot for visitors to Johannesburg. It is surrounded by the suburbs of Houghton Estate, Fairwood, Mountain View, Norwood, Victoria and Orchards.
Orange Grove is a little different, in that there is an almost tangible feeling of community and camaraderie amongst its residents, which creates a great vibe and a warm atmosphere. There is a park and library here, as well as the oldest bar and grill-house in Johannesburg, The Radium Beerhall. This suburb was also once the home address of Mahatma Gandhi.
Sandton and its world-renowned malls are a mere 20-minute drive away from Orange Grove, and the OR Tambo International Airport is even closer. A 30-minute drive takes visitors to Montecasino, while the Cradle of Humankind is just over an hour away.
Orange Grove is, therefore, a fantastically convenient base from which to get the most out of the history, culture, scenery and top-notch shopping of the City of Gold, in South Africa's Gauteng Province. Some of Johannesburg's chief attractions include the Lion Park, the Apartheid Museum, Gold Reef City, the South African National Museum, and the Johannesburg Zoo.
