The Garden Route’s official borders are Storms River in the Eastern Cape and Heidelberg in the Western Cape. This is a major part of the stretch between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, along the N2 national road.

The Garden Route is aptly named, since it is almost entirely blanketed by lush forests (filled to the brim with ferns), and is flanked by rolling hills and foliaged mountains on one side, and the crisp, clear blue of the Indian Ocean on the other.

The Garden Route produces some fantastic wines. The cool, wet winters and temperate summers (with their own fair share of rains) make for the perfect conditions in which to cultivate a range of red, white and rosé wines. Popular wine farms include Jakkalsvlei Vineyards in the Langeberg Mountains, Bramon Wine Estate in The Crags and Herold Wine in George.
