Harding, South Coast
The town of Harding is situated in the beautiful South African province of KwaZulu-Natal, where balmy summers and tropical vegetation abound. This little farming town is an administrative centre with its focus on agriculture, dairy and timber.
It was once a military outpost, and boasts a historical charm of its own. A narrow-gauge railway was constructed from Port Shepstone to Harding, and miniature steam trains were the pride and joy of their beaming drivers. However, this railway has long since been abandoned.
Harding is nestled at the foot of the Ingeli Mountain Range and surrounded by exquisite indigenous forests. There are a number of mountain biking and hiking trails through the forests, which are perfect for a family outing or a challenge amongst friends. There are baboons and monkeys in the forest too, making for a great sight while enjoying the fresh air and the dappled sunshine through the canopy of the tall trees. This setting promises beautiful backdrops for one's photographs, and memories to last a lifetime.
Harding is less than 90 kilometres from the surfing hotspot of Port Shepstone and about 190 kilometres from Durban, which is one of South Africa's most significant urban epicentres. It is also home to the King Shaka International Airport.
