About Moses Mabhida Stadium
Durban is one of South Africa's most significant metropolises, and the proud home of the Moses Mabhida Stadium. Named after one of the most dedicated freedom fighters of the apartheid regime, this has been voted the most popular stadium in the country on an online poll. And it is no wonder when one considers the clean, modern design, the ample facilities and the innovative use of space and light.
The Moses Mabhida Stadium is characterised by its arch, which makes it a feat of engineering, as well as the perfect spot for adventure sport and adrenalin-inducing activities (such as the Big Rush Big Swing, which has adrenalin-addicts swinging from the dizzying height of 80 metres above the ground). The SkyCar transports visitors to the highest point of this arch (106 metres high), exhibiting some of the most breath-taking views of the stadium and its surrounds.
In addition to hosting a number of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ games, this stadium is the perfect venue for other sports matches, tournaments, corporate events, concerts and performances. It is a truly multi-purpose stadium that was designed to rival the likes of the Eiffel Tower and The London Eye in international acclaim and recognition.
The Moses Mabhida Stadium is located in Stamford Hill, and is able to accommodate 56 000 spectators. However, for special events, this capacity can be increased to a massive 85 000. The seats have been arranged and coloured to resemble the ebb and flow of the Indian Ocean, which laps the shores of Durban, and each seat provides a clear line of sight to the pitch.
There are 120 luxury suites and business clubs, which boast no fewer than 7 500 VIP seats for those wanting to watch the games in style or make the best use of this facility for corporate events.
The Moses Mabhida Stadium has already won a number of awards for its design and innovation, and continues to be one of South Africa's most beautiful stadiums.
