Pennington, South Coast

Once a thriving dairy farm, this remarkable estate has transformed into a stunning destination featuring serene water features, vibrant forests, rich birdlife, roaming deer, a modern conference center, elegant accommodation options and a world-class golf course. This charming location is nestled along the Umdoni coast of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa.

Pennington exudes a quaint coastal charm, along with its neighboring villages of Kelso, Sezela, and Bazley Beach. This area offers a unique appeal with unspoiled beaches, scenic bays, and safe tidal pools - perfect for those seeking relaxation and renewal.

Exploring Pennington further reveals exciting activities, especially for golfers. The Umdoni and Selborne Park golf courses provide rounds that come with spectacular ocean views, glimpses of wildlife, and lush indigenous forests. Umdoni Park, founded by Sir Frank Reynolds as a tribute to local fauna and flora, was gifted to South Africa in 1920 and remains under the Umdoni Trust. The park's features include scenic walking trails, the Komba Bird Sanctuary, and the picturesque Nkumbane Dam. A visit to the Indigenous Nursery offers a chance to admire native plants and vibrant bird species.

Pennington's warm coastal waters teem with diverse fish species, making it a haven for anglers. Here, sport fishing thrives, drawing enthusiasts who seek trophy catches of barracuda, garrick, shark, and salmon. The annual Couta Classic, held over Easter, sees fishing enthusiasts from all over the country converge for one of Kwazulu Natal premier fishing events. Beyond the deep-sea excitement, rock and surf fishing offer rewarding catches, with species like shad, rays, grunter, kingfish, and pompano frequently found along the shore.

For those who prefer activities other than golf or fishing, Pennington has an array of options including snorkeling, scuba diving, horseback rides on the beach, and birdwatching. The local Village Mall also caters to convenience with stores, real estate services, and dining options. The natural beauty and diversity of Pennington come alive through these outdoor activities, providing visitors with unforgettable memories of its captivating scenery and vibrant wildlife. Whether planning a lively trip with friends or a serene escape with a loved one, Pennington promises a getaway that will beckon you back time and again.
