One of the most popular haunts when staying in and around Southbroom, KwaZulu Natal, Riverbend Crocodile farm is home to over 200 adult Nile crocodiles, numerous juveniles of varying sizes, and a number of bird species that share this space on a beautiful estate.

Did you know? The highlight of any visit is feeding time, when the crocodiles can enter into a feeding frenzy, and crocodile hatching demonstrations in January and February.

This part of the south coast saw its last crocodile as far back as 1864, when a particularly disreputable croc was shot after terrorizing visitors on Uvongo beach.

Riverbend Crocodile Farm has had to buy the bulk of its feisty reptiles from Spencer's Creek in Victoria Falls although the farm has successfully bred its own crocs since 1983. Riverbend farm is a series of artistically landscaped breeding enclosures that are as close to the reptiles' natural habitat as possible.

There is also an education centre that covers the life cycle of crocodiles and snakes and outlines the daily activities on the farm, so that visitors can get a good overview.

The farm is run by the eldest son of Corky Kelly, the man behind the construction of Riverbend farm, who has a wealth of information and knowledge.

The Crocodile Café is a fully licensed restaurant situated on the farm is famous for it's wholesome farm breakfasts, light family lunches, waffles and lazy afternoon teas. Apart from magnificent milkshakes, supper scones and scrumptious lemon merinque pie, the Crocodile Café also offers various crocodile dishes.

To add to the already exciting attraction, a snake house was built on the farm in 2003. It houses some of the country's most deadly and beautiful snakes – a lethal combination. Snake demonstrations take place on Sundays, or more frequently during the holiday seasons, which help dismiss some of the myths that surround these reptiles.
