Mpumalanga's Mbombela Stadium is a true reflection of all things South Africa, and a real treat for international sports fans to visit. This unique stadium is situated just outside Nelspruit and was constructed for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ event, which saw millions of football fans streaming into South Africa from all corners of the globe.

Did you know? In addition to hosting some of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ games, the Mbombela Stadium has been used for other tournaments (soccer, rugby and cricket), exhibitions and entertainment events.

The Mbombela Stadium has a seating capacity of almost 41 000. Its design has close ties to its proximity to the world-renowned Kruger National Park and the wildlife to which it is home. The chairs are black and white, and positioned to resemble the stripes on a zebra. The 18 roof supporting structures are designed to look like tall giraffes, standing guard over the stadium and its spectators. These elements are striking, creating a really dramatic effect that is unabashedly African.

Most of the seating is under cover, although the roof is open to maximise light and air flow. The stadium's facilities include ramps and lifts, premium seating, a VIP lounge, club lounges, 25 private boxes, and a restaurant.

Nelspruit is less than an hour's drive from the Kruger National Park, and about 300 kilometres from Johannesburg and the OR Tambo International Airport.
