About Cape Agulhas Beaches
Visitors to South Africa that have booked their accommodation in Cape Agulhas are guaranteed to be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing the perfect beach on which to spend their days. This area is littered with magnificent beaches that have white sand, blue waters, and plenty of sunshine. Cape Agulhas is the southernmost tip of Africa and the point at which the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet. It is a rocky headland with some gorgeous beaches, making it a stunning weekend getaway for travellers along the Garden Route or those exploring the Cape Overberg.
Did you know? The Cape Agulhas region is home to the coastal towns of Arniston, L'Agulhas, Struisbaai and Suiderstrand. Each town has something unique and enticing to offer. But, the beaches of Cape Agulhas are certainly its best-loved gems.
Arniston Beach is all about soft, white sand and the tempting blue of the ocean. The sea is perfect for swimming or surfing, thanks to its consistent waves. This is a rocky beach in places, which means that there are also loads of rock pools for little ones to explore for hours. Lay on the warm sands and bronze up, or walk down the beach for a little Vitamin Sea.
For families with children that love to discover new things, the rock pools at Agulhas Beach are just perfect. There is so much life in them, which is always a thrill to see. This is also a popular fishing beach. For the history enthusiasts, Agulhas Beach is home to the Cape Agulhas Lighthouse, dating back to 1848.
The safe swimming beach of Struisbaai is also popular for SCUBA diving, thanks to the array of marine life below the water's surface. Families and watersports fans visiting here can just enjoy frolicking in the waves, or can try body boarding, surfing, kite-surfing and hydrofoiling. As an added bonus, there are loads of little restaurants and shops nearby.
The climate of Cape Agulhas is fairly temperate. Summers are warm and dry, while winters tend to get a little cooler and rainier. Still, there are no extremes here, which means that the area and its beaches are a delight to visit almost all year around. Cape Agulhas is only about two hours from the Cape Town International Airport.
