About Chart Farm
Lying at the top of Wynberg Park with incredible views out over the vineyards of Constantia, Chart Farm is one of those little escapes about which only the locals know.
Did you know? Chart Farm is situated adjacent to Wynberg Park about 15 minutes from Cape Town city centre. Visitors can hand pick roses, fresh apples, grapes and nectarines.
Chart Farm is one of the only places where you can pick your own roses in Cape Town and the bonus is that you can enjoy tea, coffee and an array of cakes on the terrace afterwards.
And stay for tea (breakfast or lunch) you will, because the views out over the gorgeous houses, trees and farms that extend practically all the way to Muizenberg on a clear day, to your left, and the back end of Table Mountain virtually close enough to touch on the far side of the rose garden, will take some doing to beat as far as views go. Although you might want to make a note to take your own set of gardening gloves, as the roses are rather prickly – as roses are wont to be.
It is hard to believe that there are farms this close to the southern suburbs. And of course the main allure at Chart Farm is the roses of every hue, shape and size.
Nothing beats roses as a gift, and hand-picked ones with names like Cora Marie and Esther Geldenhuys make the git that much more authentic.
Word has it that you can also pick grapes here at specific times of the year, and the farm stall, where you take your bucket load at the end to wrap in newspaper, also sells farm produce like lemons, chestnuts and vegetables. Oh, and cherries from Klondyke Cherry Farm during November and December.
