This stadium is situated in the pretty, leafy suburb of Newlands, just minutes away from Cavendish Shopping Centre, and about 15 or 20 minutes from the City Bowl.

Did you know? Today, Newlands Rugby Stadium is the home base of the Stormers in Super Rugby and Western Province in the Currie Cup. It also hosted some of the games in the World Cup of 1995.

This stadium is now known as DHL Newlands and can accommodate 51 900 dedicated spectators, which includes some standing. It is the oldest rugby stadium in the country, and the second-oldest of its kind in the world, having been home to the first official match in 1890. At this first game, 2 400 fans came to watch.

Newlands Rugby Stadium is well equipped with large ablutions, and there are facilities and amenities for those that are physically disabled or anyone making use of a wheelchair. During games, there are snacks and refreshments available, including fully-licensed stalls for those that want to sink a cold beer while they indulge in their favourite sport. There are VIP boxes and a media suite too. The entire stadium is a non-smoking zone.

In the scholars' area on the north and south ends of the stadium, and in certain parts of the public area, no alcohol is permitted. This creates alcohol-free spaces for fans to enjoy the game, if they prefer.

DHL Newlands Stadium is surrounded by restaurants, bars, shops, ATM's and petrol stations for the convenience of the fans. For matches, extra parking is made available at various schools and other open areas in the vicinity.

Newlands is a green suburb on the slopes of Table Mountain, with stunning views of its heights as a backdrop. It has beautiful homes, and is where the exquisite Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens can be visited.
