Suiderstrand, Cape Agulhas
In the beautiful Overberg District Municipality of the Western Cape is the little settlement of Suiderstrand (which means "southernmost beach"). It has an area of some 1.4 square kilometres and is home to only a few dozen folk. Still, it has a rich character and an unadulterated beauty all of its own.
Suiderstrand is part of the Cape Agulhas District Municipality and is right in the midst of the beautiful Agulhas National Park. As such, there is an abundance of natural diversity all around the sleepy coastal village. The vegetation is particularly beautiful, and includes fynbos, which is endemic to South Africa. This particular family of plants comprises hundreds of species and continues to fascinate and delight those that experience the wildness of its smells and the diversity of its colours.
Suiderstrand is also home to exquisite beaches. These are ideal for those who want to swim, sunbathe, explore the rock pools or simply walk along the sandy stretches of the coastline. These beaches boast a selection of coastal birds that are rather rare, making it particularly special for those who appreciate nature and the outdoors.
