In remembrance to the 67 years that Nelson “Rolihlahla” Mandela gave of his life to the democratization and normalization of South African society and under the guidance of the Mandela Bay Development agency (MBDA), Port Elizabeth has developed a walking route as an interactive art journey comprising of 67 art pieces conceptualized, created and constructed along a path that will take 67 minutes to walk.
9:00 meet and greet and pick up at place of residence to start at the frieze at the bottom of the historic 1820 settler monument, continuing through to market square, the hub of the city and on past the benign eye of the statue of Queen Victoria to the Public library.
We go on up the mosaic covered stairs to the top of the hill, the Donkin Reserve overlooking the central business district of the city. The hill top is host to a number of art pieces including the final piece, the impressive 60 metre flag pole with its even more impressive gigantic South African flag.
After completing the guided tour of a journey made possible by the actions of a man imprisoned for 27 years for his beliefs in a free society and bestowed upon us as a gift of his forgiveness and wisdom as we complete the tour and return you to your accommodation
