Today we start off with a short City Heritage Tour to hear all about the landing of the 1820 Settlers and the allocations and dispatching of the Settlers to their allotments in the Albany District. We also visit The Donkin Reserve, The Fort, No 7 Castle Hill Museum, the first Settler home in Port Elizabeth and the 1820 Settler Exhibition at the Nelson Mandela Art Museum. We then drive through the town centre on the way out of town.
We head East, the same as the Settlers did 200 years ago, following their route and stop at Nanaga, a San name for a plant prolific in the area. This is a lovely shop and restaurant for our lunch stop.
After lunch we depart for the first Settler home owned now by the Hart Family but was originally the allotment given to the Slater Settler Family. Here we listen to the history of this family told to us by Roger Hart and after a walkabout in the lovely old farmhouse we enjoy refreshments and muffins. (included in cost)
Leaving this farm behind we move on to Sidbury Park given to the Lieutenant Commander Richard Daniell. His story is different as he came as a Private Party but I will leave it up to the Tour Guide to tell you all about it.
We depart Sidbury Park for Grahamstown and check in to our accommodation for the night
