Itinerary

  1. DAY 1: Cape Town to Oudtshoorn

We leave Cape Town and drive towards Oudtshoorn, via Worcester and Swellendam. Oudtshoorn is in the Little Karoo - a semi-desert region lying behind a mountain range. As a result, it gets little rain and has a very special vegetation. It consists of herb bushes and succulents such as aloe and euphorbia. Mainly ostriches and sheep are bred in the area. You will visit an ostrich farm where you will be shown everything about this interesting bird. Then we can also go into the stalactite caves, Cango Caves, which is behind Oudtshoorn in the Swartberg Mountains. We stay overnight on a farm – Mooiplaas BB

    OVERNIGHT: Mooiplaas BB

  2. DAY 2: Oudtshoorn to Addo National Park

Staying behind a mountain range, we drive along the Langkloof, known for its apple and pear farms, and arrive in Port Elizabeth in the afternoon. Then we continue to Addo National Park. This park was created when the last remaining elephants in the area were about to be shot down in the 1920's. Due to public support for the elephants, the last 15 were fenced off in an extra purchased area. This is how the park came about in 1931 and from the 15 there are now over 250. This national park has the most elephants per square kilometer and is also the quietest because they have not been hunted since the 1920's. That's why you get so close to them. Besides the elephants, there are also various antelopes, buffalo, rhino and lions. We stay overnight at Addo Camp.

    OVERNIGHT: Addo Camp

  3. DAY 3: Addo National Park

One more day in Addo Park – open vehicle game drives are also available. Addo Park. BB

    OVERNIGHT: Addo Park

  4. DAY 4: Addo park to Tsitsikamma

After breakfast we leave Addo park and drive back past Port Elizabeth until we are in the heart of the Garden Route at Tsitsikamma. The best part of the Garden Route is between George and Tsitsikama. The area is known for its forests, lakes, beaches and flowers. The temperatures are moderate – mostly between 18 and 25 degrees. It is one of the 6 flower regions of the world. Protea, Erica and wild geraniums, calla and iris and many other varieties can be seen. We live in the Village Inn, BB.

    OVERNIGHT: Village Inn

  5. DAY 5: Tsitsikama to Plettenberg bay

After breakfast, we make our way, again on the N2, through the beautiful forest landscape. It has there the largest native forest in South Africa. We drive to Coastal National Park, Tsitsikama and walk a beautiful wooden forest path to a suspension bridge and the mouth of Storms River. We leave the toll road and turn towards Natures Valley. It's worth a detour to Plettenberg bay. The bay, called Baiha de Formosa by the Portuguese - the pretty bay - is the most popular bathing spot in South Africa. Then it's on to Knysna. We live there in the Azure House.

    OVERNIGHT: Azure House

  6. DAY 6: Plett to Hermanus

After breakfast we take the N2 towards Cape Town, passing Mosselbay and Swellendam and turning towards Hermanus. Hermanus is well known for the right whales that visit our shores between June and October. We are staying at the Winchester Hotel, Hermanus. BB

    OVERNIGHT: Winchester Hotel

  7. DAY 7: Hermanus to Cape Town

Today we continue to Cape Town via Bettys bay and Gordons bay. This road to Hermanus is known as the Flower Road and is beautiful, with many views of the sea. We arrive back in Cape Town in the early afternoon. We make a stop at Vergelegen - one of the most beautiful wineries in the Cape.
