About Clarens Village Conservancy

The Clarens Village Conservancy (CVC) is a group of people, homeowners and businesses who together look after the town's natural resources – land, water, energy and plants – so that everyone may enjoy them.

Did you know? The conservancy is funded purely by membership fees, fundraising, an annual contribution from the municipality, and donations.

A registered Non Profit Organisation, Clarens Village Conservancy works together with the local municipality to manage the nature reserve area. It also actively promotes projects to improve the environment around Clarens like environmental education, cutting back and improving on pollution, reporting illegal dumping, poaching and illegal wood cutting, as well as protecting local indigenous plants from illegal harvesting.

The conservancy employs four fulltime rangers who: help cut and maintain local hiking trails, educate local school children, churches and youth groups about the environment, remove rubbish from yellow bins and litter around town.

Furthermore they collect recyclables from local businesses, sort recyclables at the recycling shed, clear away any snares and look out for any signs of poaching in the nature reserve, stop or report any illegal wood cutting and replant indigenous plants.
