About Goegap Nature Reserve
Goegap Nature Reserve lies about 15 kilometres east from Springbok. The best time to visit the reserve to fully enjoy its splendour is from late July or August through to October, if you are wanting to see the spring flowers. (Depending on the rains the flowers may be earlier or later and this varies from year to year).
Did you know? A visit to the Goegap Nature Reserve will make a lasting impression with the spectacular annual display of wild flowers in spring.
The Goegap Nature Reserve with its granite peaks and sandy plains are dominated by Carolusberg, the highest point in the area. Goegap's wild flower garden contains an enormous collection of succulents endemic to the area.
Besides the unbelievable number of floral species, Goegap Nature Reserve boasts a recorded 45 mammalian species including springbok, gemsbok, the endangered Hartman's Zebra and the aardwolf amongst several others.
Bird lovers will enjoy the more than 92 recorded South African bird species which can be viewed in the park including ostriches, black eagles, spotted dikkops and ground woodpeckers.
Those looking for hiking and other outdoor activities will be pleased to know that the reserve is home to the Myers hiking trail which is an excellent option if spotting a wide variety of wildlife is on your agenda. A few other hikes are laid out in the reserve varying in length (from 2 to 8 kilometres) and suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
