The Himeville Nature Reserve in the Drakensberg stretches along the eastern boundary of Himeville and was proclaimed to its present size of 104 ha in 1973.

Did you know? Situated on the outskirts of Himeville Village, the two dams also offer excellent opportunities for bird watching. If you are fortunate you might spot the endangered wattled crane or a blue crane or two.

The highlight of the Himeville Nature Reserve is trout fishing in the two dams which are situated within the reserve. Although boats are no longer available for hire, anglers are welcome to use their own small rowing craft or flotation tubes. (please note that power boats are not permitted on the dams). Fishing permits are required and can be obtained at the reserve office.

When not fishing or birdwatching, visitors to Himeville reserve are able to walk freely throughout the reserve and view limited wildlife which includes blesbuck and black wildebeest.

The Himeville reserve is only 14 km from Cobham Nature reserve which offers enjoyable walks and hikes for the whole family.

Campers are offered very basic facilities in an open area where guests can set up their tents and or park their campers. A maximum number of ten sites, there are plug points and cold water taps available for caravans, and firewood is sold at the office.
