Mjejane Game Reserve lies on the banks of the crocodile River on the southern end of the famous Kruger National Park, its borders with the park no longer hindered by fences, allowing the free range of game to and fro.

This part of the Kruger Park is said to be of the best for game viewing and since it is so very accessible – only 4 hours' drive from Gauteng, just past the town of Hectorspruit – a wonderful space to which to escape on a regular basis.

Mjejane is 4000 hectares that connects via a low-water bridge to the road network of the Kruger National Park. Some of its land is being developed and the reserve is a joint venture between the local community and big business.

There are options to stay right on the river's edge (see options below), a stunning space in which to live in amongst beautiful, old indigenous trees. You can do this via fractional ownership (you buy a portion of time in the reserve each year), or you can stay at the Mjejane River Lodge, a private eleven bedroom luxury lodge that gives you access to game drives, walking safaris and days spent getting away from it all in the midst of wild life.

The best time of year to head out here, when animals are most easily spotted, is when it is dry, between April and September. The bush and trees at this time of year do not have as many leaves, and the weather is not as intense, for in this part of the country it can become acutely hot. It does not get better than the African bush, late at night, the sound of a lion in the distance, a fire roaring in the lapa.
