About Crown Mines Golf Club
We regret, the Crown Mines Golf Club has closed and is no longer operating. The Information below is for historical interest only.
Johannesburg or “Egoli” – ‘The Heart of Gold,' as it is affectionately known, is the area in which South Africa mines its gold. In fact some of the world's largest gold deposits are located here. And Crown Mine Golf Club is situated the midst of all the extravagance.
Completely rebuilt between 1970 and 1976, the 100 year old club stands tall today not only in its history but also in the hearts and minds of its faithful members. Today the club is in close proximity to Gold Reef City – a theme park that boasts abundance of attractions and as recently as 2010 a new neighbour moved into town, right across the road actually – The FNB Stadium, Soccer City.
The well-manicured course is an absolute gem to play on. The surface is kept in fantastic condition and 11 of the 18 holes feature water hazard's that will keep you on your toes. A par 72 at almost 7000m in length gave the architects plenty of room to work with and indeed they have built a stunning course.
Visitors will be please to know that play here is open to the public. However, it is highly recommended that you book your accommodation in Johannesburg and your tee-off times ahead to avoid disappointment. Facilities include a driving range, putting green, Pro-Shop, caddies and a Halfway House.
