About Royal Johannesburg Golf Club
Situated northwest of Johannesburg's bustling city centre lays one of the most prestigious golf clubs in South African history – The Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Course. At almost 130 years old, the club is one of the oldest in South Africa and received its royal prefix in 1931 when King George the Fifth visited South Africa.
Two years after this famous visit the second of the clubs two legendary courses was born and is known, quite widely, as the East Course.
The East course has gone on to host no less than seven South African Opens and has played host to a large number of other important national and international events. Golfers Digest and The Compleat Golfer both consistently rank The East Course in South Africa's top ten golf courses and this is no easy accomplishment.
The West Course, though not as highly rated, is still considered an excellent South African course and is preferred by many of the clubs members because of its ease of playability. It is advisable to book your accommodation in Johannesburg and your tee-off times ahead to avoid disappointment.
As one would expect from the rankings the facilities mirror the club. The Royal provides everything one has come to expect from the modern game and pleasantly infuses it with old world charm and tradition. This is without a doubt, a must-play.
