About Bluewater Bay Beach
On the outskirts of Port Elizabeth, where the ocean is wilder and the air is laced with sea spray, are the laid-back suburb of Bluewater Bay and its beach of the same name. They are minutes away from the city centre, thanks to being perched right on the highway into the Friendly City, but far away enough to be tranquil and quiet.
Bluewater Bay Beach is massive; and is blanketed by clean, white sand. Small, undulating sand dunes promise hours of fun for little ones, and the warmer waters and good conditions of the Indian Ocean make it a fabulous choice for swimming and surfing. Often, fishermen also come to this spot to bag an impressive catch. Thanks to the windy afternoons of PE, kite-surfers and windsurfers may be around too, whiling away their hours on the waters of the bay.
During the peak season of the summer months (December to February), life guards are on duty so that families can relax and enjoy the sun, sea and sand. There is a playground for little ones that have plenty of energy to burn, as well as convenient ablutions. Pack a picnic basket and head to Bluewater Bay Beach for a fun, memorable day out with the family.
Port Elizabeth has other beautiful beaches too, and these are about 15 minutes away from Bluewater Bay. Addo Elephant National Park is about an hour away, and is home to hundreds of free-roaming African elephants. Port Elizabeth is bursting at the seams with restaurants, shopping malls, and pretty natural areas. Also known as the Friendly City, it is situated in the gorgeous province of the Eastern Cape.
