About History Museum
The History Museum originally focused only on the contribution of the 1820 British Settlers and their descendents but it now is all encompassing and includes history of the people who live or have lived in the Eastern Cape.
The collection relating to the settlers includes toys and dolls, medals, coins, domestic furniture, agricultural equipment, ceramics, glass and silver, textiles, documents and genealogical information. There is an ethnographic collection which will enlighten you about the Southern Nguni People and their culture and even features traditional dress of the amaXhosa.
Browse through the collection of paintings by FT I'ons and T Baines and have a look at the well-preserved mummy which is housed in the classical archaeological collection emphasising Ancient Egypt. This museum is part of the Albany Museum Complex.
