The Kouga Region of the South African province of the Eastern Cape is characterised by extensive mountain ranges, stunning succulents and dense bushveld vegetation. It is rugged and quiet, creating the perfect spot for adventurers wanting to challenge themselves and one another in their 4x4 vehicles.

The Kouga Wildernis 4x4 Route is a circular trail that connects with other trails to create an 18 kilometre long adventure. It takes between two and three hours to complete and enjoys a grading of three. This route is a rocky trail that includes loose stones, gravel, and boulders with a few exciting descents and ascents. Despite being a self-guided route, there are certainly areas that are will get the adrenalin pumping; pushing vehicles and drivers alike to excel. The views are exquisite in places, making any tough tests more than worth the tackle.

In addition to the Kouga Wildernis 4x4 Trail, there are three other trails with which drivers can combine their venture. These are the Sukkelpoort Trail (a narrow stretch of about five kilometres), the Blouberg Trail (three kilometres long), and the Kouga River Trail (also around three kilometres.

Because this area is so abundant in natural species; both plant and animal; visitors can look forward to seeing some fabulous varieties. This profusion of life makes the entire Kouga Region one that is favoured by those with a love for the outdoors. Drivers and their passengers that enjoy the outdoors can look forward to hiking, cycling, walking, fishing, abseiling and bird watching between taking on the challenge of the Kouga Wildernis 4x4 Route and its surrounding trails. The small agricultural town of Joubertina is just 28 kilometres from the trail.
