About Qolora Beach
The Wild Coast is just that - raw, wild and unabashedly spectacular. It is home to Xhosa villages, endless rolling hills that tumble to the wild ocean waters below, and beaches that are just breath-taking in their beauty and scale. Qolora Beach is one of these. It also offers access to vehicles, which is rare in this area.
Like so many of the beaches along the Wild Coast, Qolora is popular amongst the local cattle. Visitors will often share the vast sandy stretches with herds of cows and even the odd donkey or three. Of course, there is even more life under the water's surface. Fishermen love to while away the hours on the shore and rocks, casting their line into the water. Still, the Wild Coast has earned its name, and swimmers need to be alert to rips and turbulent conditions.
The lagoon, formed by the river at the mouth, leads to the beach and is ideal for safer swimming, fishing, stand-up paddling, and kayaking. Just a short walk will take visitors to the Gates waterfall, and rock pools that are well worth exploring for their abundant life. The Jacaranda shipwreck is such an exciting find, particularly for adventurous little ones with a sense of curiosity. There are other trails in the vicinity of Qolora Beach roo.
At the mouth, visitors will find the iKhamanga Cultural Village, where they can experience the culture and traditions of the local Xhosa folk. The little seaside hamlet of Qolora is nearby, and the centre of East London is about two hours' drive from the beach. Port Elizabeth and the Addo Elephant National Park are about six hours away from the beach.
