About The Granary Market
Port Elizabeth’s Stanley Street has, in recent years, become one of the city’s most vibrant hubs for sampling the finest food and wine in the city. Since September 2013, it has also been the address of The Granary Market. Thanks to its central location and the many restaurants, wine bars and cocktail hotspots in the immediate vicinity, The Granary continues to lure more and more locals and visitors alike.
The Granary is situated in an old warehouse in Richmond Hill, which was established as a bakery in 1925. The warehouse is a delightful combination of rustic and progressive; with exposed brick work and high ceilings, as well as massive sliding wooden doors and clean lines. It is often used for weddings and corporate functions when it is not open to the market, which takes place on the first Wednesday of every month from 16h00 to 21h00.
This market is set to promote night shopping, which gives busy working folk the opportunity to enjoy the vibe and variety available in hours that are more convenient to them and their needs. Arts, crafts, clothing (adult and children’s), jewellery, vintage goods and a huge array of homemade food and local produce are on show.
Thanks to the locale, there is plenty of on-street parking available to those coming to the market. There is also seating inside or on the pavement (to get a real taste of the Friendly City culture), a fully licensed bar, and live music to boot.
The Eastern Cape is full of talent and top-quality produce. These are being showcased at this quirky market, which aspires to showing the world more of the talent and beauty coming out of the province’s borders.
