About The Old Slipway
Previously constructed as a dry dock near Port Elizabeth harbour to service tugboats in the 1800’s, the old steel slipway and a number of pylons are all that remain and has created an easy and exciting snorkeling and diving site.
The slipway runs from the beach and stretches at least 150 meters out into the sea. Easy access makes this spot ideal for night dives or training. You are able to get up to a maximum of 7 meters in depth towards the end of the slipway when diving here.
Check out the Gully Sharks, clever Octopus, Crayfish and the abundance of other sea life around the area. Mussels and Red Bait smother the metal structures underwater, along with Anemones and Starfish.
Take care when diving here and do not dive under the metal framework, as this is very dangerous and it is easy to get stuck here or get hurt on the metal.
