About Outeniqua Beach

The coastline of the Garden Route is dramatic and raw, with massive sandy beaches and the wild waves of the Indian Ocean crashing on the sands. Outeniqua Beach (also commonly known as Outeniqua Strand) is one of these scenic beaches and is perched on the sandy stretch between Mossel Bay and George.

The entire length of the beach spans some six kilometres, which is divided into four separate swimming areas. The waters are relatively warm, making it a great choice for families that want a beach holiday without tackling icy sea water. It is ideal for kite-surfing during the summer months. Spectators get to enjoy the antics of dolphins and seals all year round as they play in the surf or peek out inquisitively.

Every year, between July and December, southern right and humpback whales entertain their spectators, who stand on the shore or look on from whale-watching boats, with impressive displays of their size and agility. Occasionally, orcas join the mix too.

There is plenty of parking available for visitors, as well as a number of different entry points to the beach itself. Ablutions are available for the convenience of visitors.

Outeniqua Beach is only about 10 kilometres from the George Airport, 14 kilometres from the internationally-acclaimed Fancourt Golf Estate, an hour from Oudtshoorn and the Cango Caves, and around five hours from Cape Town and its international airport.

Pack a picnic, bring a good book, and relax on the Outeniqua Beach's soft sands for the ultimate in the kind of tranquillity that only comes from fresh air and sunshine.
