About Kremetart Park
Kremetart Park lies in a street of the same name in Eldorado Park Ext 3, between Kiaat and Boekenhout streets on the site where once a field stood, one that attracted little attention. Now, as part of Johannesburg City Park's bid to green the southern suburbs, there is a park.
Kremetart opened in 2008, boasts two miniature soccer fields (sand as opposed to grass, as it's easier to maintain and a more environmentally friendly option), water features, benches, indigenous trees and enough space to host up to 500 people for events, fun fairs and the likes. It is also one of the few parks to get a big-screen Television, where free broadcasts that combine education, sport, music and travel programmes screen in the afternoons. All the World cup matches were screened on Ekasi TV, the township TV station that is one of the partners involved in installing TV screens in some of Johannesburg's parks.
Since then, the park has been the site of Eldo's Jazz Festival, in partnership with the Johannesburg Arts Alive International Festival, where a host of musician's line up for a great evening that including local acts, and a number of refreshment stalls.
The park's water feature is a great favourite with children, as the big steel pipes that are bent at 90 degree angles, spew out great jets of water in which they can play.
