About Pretoria Boeremark
Be sure to leave your Pretoria accommodation early on Saturday mornings to be in time for the freshest produce and cutest keepsakes at the traditional Pretoria Boeremark (or farmers' market). The farmers arrive at daybreak, ready with their best goods for visitors and locals that know all about natural flavour and quality.
The Pretoria Boeremark is open to the public every Saturday morning from 05h30 to 09h30, welcoming thousands of regulars and newbies to take a look at what's on offer. On wintery mornings, fires are made to ensure that shoppers are cosy and warm as they indulge in a steaming cup of hot coffee before stocking up on delicious food and gorgeous goods. If you arrive early enough, you may even be able to add watching the sunrise to your market experience.
The stalls offer a range of freshly baked breads, biscuits, rusks, and pies for visitors that are after some indulgent temptations. There is also traditional porridge, rich vetkoek (deep-friend dough), melkkos (a sweet and creamy dessert), and pancakes; adding to the authentic South African experience that is a genuine “boeremark”. Shoppers can look forward to finding beautiful jewellery, plants, canned products, fresh chicken and meat, cheeses, farm-fresh milk, steel art, and wooden crafts. These are stunning as gifts for others or keepsakes for yourself.
The Pretoria Farmers' Market is a popular family event that starts your weekend off just right. It was established more than 20 years ago and continues to offer lower prices, friendly faces, and hours of fun in the heart of Gauteng. Pretoria is just over an hour from Johannesburg and its international airport.
