About Addington Beach
Perched along the famous Golden Mile of Durban not far from the best accommodation in Durban, Addington Beach is popular for its gorgeous wide, sandy stretches, warm Indian Ocean waters, the grassy patches that are perfect for sunbathing, and its proximity to the vibrant hub of Durban. What's more, Addington Beach is a little quieter than its neighbours, which makes it fabulous for families wanting to escape the hubbub of city life.
The beach is a great choice for swimming, stand-up paddling, body-boarding, hydrofoiling and surfing. This is, largely, thanks to the warm waters and the shark nets, which combine to create a safe and inviting place to enjoy the best of South African beaches. There is incredible marine fauna and flora off the KwaZulu-Natal coast and this is a must to be explored. So, bring your snorkelling or SCUBA diving gear for the ultimate in underwater fun and adventure. Little pools are perfect for snorkelling. The beach is protected, making it ideal for little ones and those learning to surf. Lifeguards are on duty all year round.
The sand is inviting for some lazy sunbathing, but also for long walks, energetic jogs, and games of volleyball, bat-and-ball, or Frisbee. Pack a picnic basket so that you can enjoy Addington Beach at leisure.
Along the edge of the beach, there are plenty of restaurants and bars. So, after a day of swimming, tanning and fun, head toward the glitzy lights for an evening of good food, good music, and good times.
Addington Beach is only 10 minutes from the CBD of Durban and 25 minutes from the King Shaka International Airport.
