About Bay of Plenty Beach
Being awarded Blue Flag status is an amazing accomplishment for beaches all over the world. It means that they are clean, safe, environmentally responsible, ecologically valuable, and beautiful. It also means that they have excellent facilities. The Bay of Plenty is one of these Blue Flag beaches, and is situated on the Golden Mile of Durban, right in the heart of the beachfront hub.
The Bay of Plenty is a favourite for surfers, thanks to consistent right and left breaks off the beach and jetty. In fact, it hosts some international surfing competitions in testimony to its great waves and warm conditions. It is also home to a number of beach volleyball tournaments. Heading into the water is fun and safe for the whole family, thanks to life guards on duty and shark nets in place. It is a great place to surf, swim, stand-up paddle, hydrofoil and body-board.
The sandy stretches invite families to walk, jog, suntan, read, or play bat-and-ball on the warm golden sands. There are rock pools that emerge at low tide. These are home to loads of fascinating plants and animals, enticing curious little ones to explore them for hours.
Fishing is permitted at certain times of the day and fishermen love standing on the pier, casting their lines, and waiting for that exciting nibble.
Durban enjoys an average of more than 300 days of sunshine every year. Summers are hot and humid, and winters are comfortably warm. So, it is the perfect spot for a beach vacation. The Bay of Plenty is centrally situated too, which means that it enjoys plenty of parking, and is close to so many of the Durban accommodation providers, malls, restaurants and markets that make Durban such a popular holiday hotspot.
