About Musgrave Rooftop Market
Held on the fifth level of the parking lot at Musgrave Centre on the first Friday of every month, this market is both upbeat and a showcase of local creativity.
Local food and craft entrepreneurs fill the space with anything from artisan breads, craft beer and falafel to pear cider, handcrafted shoes, farm butter, racks of clothing, designer lights, jewellery, cup cakes, cookies, pastries, coffee, live music, cushions and samoosas.
It is the perfect Friday night dinner venue, and the vibe is great. Arrive, browse, queue for your meal and drinks, grab a straw bale seat and listen to the live music whilst catching up with friends (did we mention it's a great space in which to meet friends and family?).
Musgrave Rooftop Market, in true Durban style, can get awfully sticky up on the fifth level, but enormous standing fans and the evening breeze help cool things down. Just alongside the live music area is a #selfiewall for fun photographs.
Our favourite stalls
Blue Betty - the mother-daughter shoe makers eschew retailers in favour of markets like the Rooftop market. Their range of flat women's shoes in rich tones (hazelnut, ruby red, emerald) are gorgeous.
Falafel Fundi where Saar (and sometimes his daughter, who looks just like him) produces your falafel and grilled veg on a roti wrap, fresh, whilst regaling you with quick quips and stories as you wait.
The thrift collection for original, gorgeous vintage and fashion clothing items.
Pipe dreamz for really original lights.
Smooth Operator for the best smoothies and iced drinks in town.
