About Rorke's Drift Horseback Safaris
There is an undeniable sense of magic in the African bush. It is about more than just the crisp air on your face or the warm sunshine on your shoulders. This is Africa. Raw, untouched, and magnificent in the show that it puts on for its visitors.
One of the best ways to experience this is on the back of a horse as it negotiates the beautiful terrain and takes you on trails that have lain safely out of the spotlight. Rorke's Drift horseback safaris are an idyllic way to spend a morning or an afternoon, with the clip-clopping of the hooves as your backing track and the smell of the bush filling the air. Outrides take place on well-trained and responsive horses. However, first-time riders are advised to come the day before your scheduled ride to be familiarised with the horses and how to ride them.
The guides are experienced and very well acquainted with the horses, so they are able to help along the way. They'll also point out gorgeous features of the area so that riders get the most out of their horse safari. Rorke's Drift is famous for being the site of one of the most significant battles in the Anglo-Zulu War in 1879. Touring the countryside that was once dredged in political upheavals and the blood of both English and Zulu fighters is an experience that creates lifelong memories.
Wear comfortable shoes, long pants and plenty of sunscreen as you head out into the countryside of Mpumalanga on a horseback safari. Helmets will be provided for the safety of the riders.
Rorke's Drift is around four hours from both Johannesburg (further north) and Durban (to the south).
