Sheffield Beach is a relatively small beach on the Dolphin Coast in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. It is conveniently situated about 15 to 20 minutes from Ballito, and less than an hour from Durban. Despite being smaller than many of its neighbouring beaches along the east coast of South Africa, Sheffield Beach certainly doesn't disappoint in terms of appeal.

This beach is especially popular for spear fishing, thanks to the many exciting fish species that can be found in these temperate waters. As a result, it is also great for SCUBA diving. What's more, these are Indian Ocean waters, which means that they are warmer and more inviting than the chilly waters of the Atlantic.

There are rock pools at Sheffield too, which are not only fabulous for snorkelling, but are also a hit for families with children that love to explore the crevices and find colourful surprises under the rocks.

The warm sands of the beach are irresistible for sun-worshippers looking to get bronzed or for those in serious need of relaxing with a good book. Visitors that are feeling a little more energetic can have a game of Frisbee or bat-and-ball, or take a stroll or jog along the beach. Dolphins can be seen in the water all year round, but whales visit this part of the coast between June and December.

Being so close to Durban and the King Shaka International Airport makes Sheffield a convenient vacation spot for tourists, as well as an easily-accessible place to spend a morning for locals.
