About Hibberdene Beach
The Indian Ocean is known for its warm waters, which lap the KwaZulu-Natal coastline lazily and make for great swimming conditions. And it is these warm waters, coupled with the lush subtropical greenery and almost year-round warm weather that make Hibberdene Beach such a special one. This beach is located on the South Coast, in a town that is also called Hibberdene.
This is a Blue Flag beach, which means it has been awarded in recognition of its clean and pretty surrounds, its safety, its biodiversity, and its amenities. The best way to enjoy the beach is to spend a lazy day reading on the warm sand, going for long beach walks, and swimming, surfing, or stand-up paddling in the temperate waters. There is plenty to see beneath the water's surface too, so bring your snorkel and goggles along for an underwater adventure. Qualified SCUBA divers can even head out into the depths to see what exciting marine animals call this home.
The beach has shark nets, so swimmers can venture into the water without worrying about encountering a fish with bigger teeth than their own.
In addition to the sandy shores, there is also a grassy patch, which is shaded by trees. This is perfect for Saturday afternoon picnics for families and groups of friends.
After hours spent tanning, surfing the waves, or strolling the sandy stretches, head to the nearby shops and restaurants of Hibberdene, which are within walking distance of the beach. Hibberdene is about an hour from the CBD of Durban, which is the commercial, industrial and retail epicentre of the KwaZulu-Natal Province.
