About Thulamela Ruins
Near the Luvuhu River, Pafuri in The Kruger National Park lies the Thulamela Ruins. This ancient African Kingdom gives you an insight into early African Culture and life and is one of the most noteworthy archeological sites in South Africa.
A recent discovery was the burial place of an African King and his Queen buried with many fascinating gold relics. This kingdom consists of a stone walled citadel surrounded by many other smaller homes and buildings. The Fortress itself could accommodate roughly 1000 people while the entire kingdom occupied at least 3000 civilians.
Many of the community were goldsmiths and traders who spent their lives trading ivory, gold and even iron that they got from the nearby mines. You can explore this magnificent place with or without a guide.
Guided tours of Thulamela can be arranged at the Gate.
