The hippy-chic hangout, Bistro at Metamorphis, is situated in the second-oldest town in Mpumalanga, Wakkerstroom. Its delicious food and comfy ambience ensure that this restaurant certainly oozes character and appeal.

Situated in an old house on the main road through Wakkerstroom, Bistro at Metamorphis is great for locals and for those passing through. Here, a variety of styles and flavours are celebrated in true culinary appreciation. There are two inviting fireplaces for chilly winter's evenings, and an old willow tree that casts its glorious shade on a hot summer's day.

The menu is an eclectic mix of Italian, Portuguese, Mozambican, Spanish, North African and South American dishes, including fabulous tapas. Popular favourites include a number of authentic curries (including a Mozambican red crab curry with lime and coconut milk), Portuguese seafood rice (known as Arroz de Mariscos), duck, rabbit, lamb and pork. The tapas options are fabulous additions to a cold beer or a delicious glass of South African red wine. In addition to some local favourites, the wine list also includes fantastic pinot griggio, Malbec, wooded and unwooded chardonnays, and more.

In addition, there is an events venue at Bistro at Metamorphis, which has been the spot of choice for the Wakkerstroom Music Festival, as well as a few other celebrations. The restaurant is open from Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner. It is ideal for adults that want to relax within pretty surrounds and a really fun vibe.
