About Sea Cow River Restaurant
Set amongst the haunting beauty of the Karoo, the folk over at Sea Cow River Restaurant at New Holme Karoo Guestfarm certainly know how to dazzle their guests. With romantic dinners on the ‘Star Deck', braais in the ‘Koppies' and sundowners at the ‘Hippo Pool' through to light lunches and champagne breakfasts in the restaurant - a truly memorable Karoo experience awaits, whatever the mood is.
With an underground 400 bottle wine cellar stocked with an impressive array of South African wines, meals are all complimented by flavours of local wines. Dining tables are set under huge poplar trees, amongst lush gardens and a pool area. A backdrop of birds, Eland, sheep and horses keep patrons entertained and delighted.
The menu sees an emphasis on Karoo lamb, springbok and beef. All herbs and vegetables are homegrown, getting our enthusiastic nod of approval! Cuisine is unfettered and deliciously local, in the style of Karoo farm food. In true Afrikaans farmer style, all meals are accompanied by homemade warm bread and jams.
