Mobile Adventures provides a combined abseiling and river rafting adventure in the beautiful nature conservancy at Pelindaba just 45 minutes from Johannesburg and Pretoria.

The adventure begins with a 25m cliff abseil at the most magnificent lookout point on the Phalindigwe Hiking Trail at Pelindaba and is followed by a 4.5km river rafting trip on the Highveld Crocodile River.

No previous experience is needed. We provide professionally trained guides and all equipment to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience outdoors in the foothills of the Magaliesberg Mountain Range. Highlights include side-surfing a standing wave and a challenge-by-choice jump from a 4m outcrop of rock into the deepest part of the river. We provide cool drinks and snacks on a tree-shaded white sand bank during the river trip.

The Highveld Crocodile is a Class 2 river but can sometimes reach Class 3 levels during the rainy season between October and March providing a thrilling experience as it winds its way past 40m high natural slate gorges and groves of white stinkwood trees.

There is a calm section of water where everyone can swim, splash each other and have unrestricted fun (as well as playing optional games such as "blind-folded boatman"). The crocodiles are extinct on this section of the river but there are giant monitor lizards (likkewaans) basking on the banks and prolific bird life.

The guides will provide guests with anecdotes about the social history of the area as Pelindaba, for example, was originally the home of South African literary icons Gustav Preller and Eugene Marais. We wrap up the day with a light meal at our waterfront restaurant which includes change rooms, showers and secure parking.

Please note appropriate river gear includes T-shirts, shorts (or quick-dry nylon slacks), hats, sunscreen and trainers or sandals with ankle straps. Don't forget to bring a spare set of clothing as you will get wet. You are welcome to bring cameras as these will be stored in dry bags during the river trip.
