About Owl Rescue Centre

Owls are exquisite birds of prey that are known the world over for their characteristic wisdom and their striking beauty. Their massive eyes are, in fact, so large that they almost touch inside the skull structure. Unfortunately, they are also susceptible to illness, accidents and poisoning in their natural habitat. In these incidents, the Owl Rescue Centre is an integral part of their rescue and rehabilitation.

The Owl Rescue Centre is a non-profit organisation situated in Hartbeespoort. It comprises a group of professionals who work hard to protect and treat owls in order to preserve their population numbers as well as their quality of life.

The Owl Rescue Centre has rescued and released hundreds of owls of different species, including barn owls and spotted eagle owls. Not only do they play an active role in the physical care and treatment of the animals, but this centre also educates the community about understanding owls and how to protect them and their environment. There remain many misconceptions and superstitions about these birds, and the project strives to clear these up and create positive opinions of these magnificent birds.

Visitors to the country will, no doubt, enjoy their Owl Rescue Centre experience, thanks to its being the only raptor centre in the country that focuses on owls.

This project believes in maintaining minimal contact between the birds and human beings, so that they are all able to be released back into the wild as soon as they are strong and healthy enough to do so.

Locals and visitors alike are able to buy owl houses and owl-friendly rat traps from the Owl Rescue Centre. Owl houses are designed to attract these wild birds to your gardens within a safe, effective environment. The rat traps are humane, and the rats are collected by the centre and used to feed the owls under rehabilitation.
