About Arra Vineyards
Arra is perfectly positioned in the shelter of the Klapmuts Mountain where water and sunshine are in abundance. Johan Southey tends to the vines and soils carefully and Dee Wentzel ensures that all is well in the cellar where only French oak barrels are used to mature wine for up to 24 months. While many wines tend to be sold before they reach maturity in the bottle, Arra wait for that perfect time before selling their label.
There are low yields on their vines to ensure premium quality grapes and immediate wine production once they are harvested at their maturation peak. Try their Viognier, described by some as the perfect summer wine which leaves pear and peaches behind on the palate and a vanilla scent, whilst the Blanc de Noir made from Shiraz grapes leaves a perfect blend of honey and peaches on the palate. Some wines such as the Arra Pinotage 2009 spend 12 months in barrels and have a black cheery flavour with earthy notes.
The estate offer a wine tasting accompanied by a cheese platter for a minimal charge.
To view more wine estates in the region see Paarl Wine Estates or see South Africa Wine Estates for a general overview and links to other wine producing regions.
