About Bellpost Wines
Located on the West Coast between Vredendal and Lutzville, off the Route 362 and near the Olifants River is the family run wine farm Bellpost Wines. From the words “Bellevue” and “Buitepos” the name Bellpost was formed. The vineyards primary function is growing grapes for larger cellars from which a boutique portion is selected to be bottled under their own label.
The grapes are grown in a variety of soil types ranging from the Loam of the river bed to the Red Karoo of the outer lying regions with the different cultivars being matched accordingly to the varying slopes and soil types with the vineyards trellised to house canopies during the growing season.
With 15 000 bottles produced annually, in a range consisting of Chardonnay, C'est La Vie, Merlot, Ruby Cabernet and Shiraz, Belllpost's personal production is prized. Harvesting takes place between February and April, during which time the grapes are handpicked and transported by lug boxes to the cellar. From beginning to end the entire process is taken care of by the Thiart Family, with father Lollies together with brother Nico being responsible for the vineyards, brother Koos for the winemaking and brother Danie, a former Blue Bulls rugby player, in charge of the marketing.
