Just north of the Mother City of Cape Town is the delightful Fat Pony Riding Centre. Thanks to its perfect positioning in the winelands of the Western Cape (more specifically, in Joostenbergvlakte), this farm offers a fantastic experience with horses and ponies against the stunning backdrop of mountains, valleys and mile upon mile of vineyards.

Riding and interacting with the horses and ponies is an unforgettable experience for families and friends; regardless of whether or not they have experience with these animals. The ponies are especially friendly and calm, and are easy for little ones to ride. This is not only fun, but also teaches visitors about the animals, the care that they require, the feats of which they are capable and the love they have for their human counterparts, making the interaction with them very special indeed. The local countryside and the friendly pooches on the farm only add to the rustic appeal of this outing.

The Fat Pony Riding Centre is a fantastic option for school holidays, as it hosts camps and workshops for learners, complete with dormitories and delicious home-cooked meals. For those that are more interested in the competitive side of equestrian care, there are excellent competitive activities, such as International Dressage, and SANESA and Compleat Horse Derbies, practice shows, practice jumping shows, showing shows, and dressage shows. The instructor has been qualified as a British Horse Society Assistant Instructor and with the Equine Qualifications Authority South Africa.

The out rides offer visitors the prime opportunity of exploring the Cape Winelands at a comfortable pace, while being close to one of the animal kingdom's most sensitive souls. Ponies can also be booked for children's parties and weddings.
