About Marianne Wine Estate
On the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain outside of Stellenbosch, you'll find rolling hills, grape vines, hospitality and superb wines at Marianne Wine Estate.
Its name can be attributed to the female figure dressed as a warrior with a ‘Cap of Liberty' during the French Revolution in 1789. It became a symbol of freedom of the common people and was named Marie-Anne which later became Marianne. Marianne became a national emblem of France symbolising equality, freedom and the triumph of the republic.
French and South African winemakers share the winemaking for the chateaux in St Emilion, Pomerol and Marianne Wine Estate. Sauvignon Blanc 2009 is harvested manually, berries are stored in a cold room for 24 hours and cold fermentation in stainless steel tanks begin. This is a refreshing, zesty wine. The Rosé 2010 is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot. It has nice body and structure with developing aromas of grenadine and pomelos.
Their restaurant by the lake, Olivello, is a rustic blend of Cape comfort food with hints of Mediterranean flavours within. Visit on a Sunday and enjoy their Mediterranean Table with a large variety of tasty foods. The children have ample space to play on the lawns; you can row around the lake or even play a game of boules.
