Tulbagh

About Morgansvlei Estate

When the first settlers arrived in the Cape, Tulbagh was called ‘The Land of Waveren'. It was only in 1806 that it was renamed Tulbagh. In 1710 Morgansvlei estate was originally named Straatskerk and was leased to Jannetjie de Clerq. The current Governor of the Cape of Good Hope had leased it as one of the first five farms in the Tulbagh region.

Once the Morgan family took ownership of the farm, they restored it to its pristine beauty and began running a wine business from there. To this day it is a working estate and well worth a visit to find relaxation in the farmlands and walks through the orchards and vineyards on the property.

You'll find a swimming pool with a braai and covered entertainment area, The Red Room for delicious dining options and Breakfast Room. Bring along the fishing rods to test your skills in the farm dam, play boules with the family, grab a binoculars to bird watch, enjoy a cricket challenge on the farm's cricket oval and sip a glass of wine beside the African-style reed wall Boma as the sun sets.

To view more wine estates in the region see Tulbagh Wine Estates or see Wine Estates in South Africa for a general overview and links to other wine producing regions.
